Ripping media off a DVD to insert in your iMovie does not have to be a tricky process if you choose a satisfying helper attentively. To edit DVD files in iMovie (no matter iMovie HD, iMovie 08, iMovie 09, or iMovie 11), you have to convert DVD a fully iMovie compatible format first. If you have GarageBand version 6.0.5 on your computer you can add chapter markers there. If you have a functioning version of iMovie 9 on your computer, or an older computer, you can either make your movie there, and add chapter markers, or you can make your movie in iMovie 10, share out the movie, and import it into iMovie 9 to add the markers. iMovie 9 does have the chapter markers feature, but has not been completely functional in the recent iterations of the operating system. If so, unfortunately, iMovie 10 does not have a feature that lets you add chapter markers.

When you click on the forward button the DVD player will jump to the next chapter marker, or the chapter markers can be put in sub-menus where you can click on them to access the movie at that point. I believe that you are referring to adding chapter markers to your movie that will be access points to the movie in whatever DVD authoring program that you use.
